ACC front-facing radar DIY calibration by VWAG

Calibrating an ACC radar sensor is as simple as rotating an adjustment screw. If only you knew which one to turn witch way and by how much...

Here comes VWAG with their guide![1]

On page 13 there's a section called "If the ACC Auto calibration fails and further adjustment is required". This is the guide for calibrating the front-facing radar by checking live data from the module 0x13 and calculating how much the radar needs to be adjusted.

Current adjustment check

Start with checking current setting of the radar

0x13 → Live Data → Misalignment angle, horiz
0x13 → Live Data → Vertical deadjustment
0x13 → Live Data → Performed adjustment

Now check if the radar is within the required range of values

"Misalignment angle, horiz" → range: -1.0 to 1.0
"Horizontal offset" → range: -1.0 to 1.0
"Vertical deadjustment" → range: 0.0 to 4.0
"Vertical offset angle" → range: 0.0 to 4.0

ACC Sensor Adjustment Procedure

You will need just a 3.5mm driver.

  1. Switch the ignition Off
  2. if "Horizontal deadjustment" value was lower than -1.0, turn 1 time the upper left screw clockwise.
  3. if "Horizontal deadjustment" value was higher than 1.0, turn 1 time the upper left screw counter clockwise.
  4. if "Vertical deadjustment" value was lower than 0.0, turn 1 time the lower right screw counter clockwise.
  5. if "Vertical deadjustment" value was higher than 4.0, turn 1 time the lower right screw clockwise.
  6. Switch the ignition On.
