After using windscreen washer your wipers will automatically move 3-4 times. Then after few seconds one additional move is initialized by the controller to remove fluids that might drip down from area unreachable for the wipers.

If your front wipers are engaged and you put your car into reverse gear, your rear wiper will automatically turn on.
Service position
Some cars (like Ford Focus MK3 or Seat Altea) require setting wipers into service position in order to change wiper blades. This is necessary because when wipers are in standard parked position it's hard or impossible to reach them as they're hidden in order to decrease air drag or prevent vandalism. To set wipers into service position there's a setting on the multimedia interface or a key-press procedure to follow.
